Find out what I’ve learned about the secret to being fearless. It’s not what you would expect, and it’s harder than you might think!
What does it mean to be fearless?
If you were to come up to me and ask me that in person, I could tell you the definition.
I could tell you that it’s something that I’ve learned a LOT about recently.
But I would by lying if I told you that I was completely fearless. (I don’t think that’ll ever happen.)
We all face fears. Some fears control us more than others do. But I don’t think any of them go away, not completely.
The SECRET to being fearless is that your fears don’t go away, you just learn how to control them. That’s the point- once you learn to control your fears, you’ll come out stronger than you were before.
Okay, maybe you’re sick of my cross country stories but I have another one…:) Throughout the season, our new coach realized how lacking the girl’s team was in confidence. He kept reminding us before races that fear can keep you from doing what you need to do in a race. It does not define you, and what you put out there should be your best and nothing that anyone else says matters. Fearless became, more or less, our team ‘word’. At the starting line, coach would always lean in and say it before the gun went off.
At the beginning of the season, I had to concentrate to stop shaking on the line before a race. I was afraid of the hurt and of the outcome.
But by the end of the season, I learned that those things do not define me. And while I still had that nervousness before a race, it was much more controllable and I was able to take off with confidence as the gun went off. The secret to being fearless is trust. Trusting that God has control, trusting that he can do things better than we can.
I never got completely over my fear before races, but now I know that it doesn’t define me. That fear is not who I am. While I know that this fear of the unknown won’t go away completely, the secret of being fearless is having strength to defeat it when it comes, only because of Christ.
Joshua 1:9:
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
This verse is so beautiful to me because of its amazing truth: God is with you. No fear can control you. He will help you with every situation as it comes. That doesn’t mean you’ll never feel fear again, but if you trust in him you’ll know that all things fall into place and that he will guide you through every struggle.
You may think that trusting God is a hard thing to do. And yes, it is hard! I still struggle daily with this. The best thing about it, though, is that he never gives up on you. He will always love you, no matter how many times you fall. And taking each moment of every day and telling yourself to trust him in every situation will help you SO much in the long run! This is something I have to remind myself of all the time.
You are not alone, sisters and brothers in Christ! Be fearless for him. 🙂

Giving your fears to the Lord is the best thing you could ever do to get rid of anxiety! And how many times do I just think and think and think over them, never once handing them over to God? Sometimes I THINK I have it all together, but really I’m just pushing away anything that scares me instead of conquering it. God does have a plan, no matter what is going on in your life.
