Sometimes being grateful is hard, but there are so many benefits of taking time to notice the little things!
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
Just wanted to share my thoughts on being grateful. I hope that you will be encouraged by this, and won’t get too overwhelmed during this crazy Christmas season;)
Being grateful is such a wonderful thing, and I think that many of us take our lives for granted. What you might not know is that being thankful for what they have has more benefits than you think! I know that it totally improves my mood, and life seems just so much better when I stop to focus on the little blessings in life.
If you’re going through a tough time this season, I want to encourage you to do this. I was in your spot not too long ago- just so completely devastated about things that you feel there is no joy in life. Maybe you’re trying to trust God, and you know that everything he does is for good, but you can’t seem to shake the weariness of life that has settled on your face. My mom reminded me of this multiple times while I was going through this, and after awhile I really tried it.
It didn’t make my feelings change, but taking time to think about the good things and take a few deep breaths helped me keep going in a slightly better state of mind than before. It didn’t seem like much, but it helped. I realized that having joy wasn’t going to just happen- it was going to take time. But soon I found myself thinking of things more optimistically than before, and as life went on things started to clear up. And then, before I knew it, I realized that my mood was improving.
The action of being grateful comes first, not feelings. Sometimes those good feelings don’t come for a long time. But brighter days ARE ahead. And God will be with you every step of the way!
