This summer has been full of small adventures and exciting new things, and our vacation in Oscoda, Michigan was no different!
I wasn’t planning on doing a travel post, but these pictures from Oscoda, Michigan turned out SO beautifully I just had to! That’s what I love about a lifestyle blog- you can do pretty much any type of post you want! (there may be some back-to-school snack ideas coming soon!)
So, here we are. Hopefully you won’t get too bored of everything I have to say about this vacation… because I’ve got something pretty cool to share with you at the end:)
Oscoda, Michigan. You’ve probably never heard of this place, but my family’s been going here for years! In fact, I’m not entirely sure how they found it. Michigan seems like a really weird place to find a good beach, but there are actually some REALLY good beaches! I love the picture above because it captures the beauty of the lake (Lake Huron) and also because my sister is adorable! Don’t tell her I said that though, I’m not sure how well that would go…
Confession: I really don’t care for swimming. I’m actually a pretty bad swimmer. I’d much rather spend my time laying out in the sun than swimming in a pool or lake. I know, I know, there are lots of runners out there who would say, “Swimming can make you so much stronger!” and I believe it would. I just don’t like it at all:) But that’s actually okay in Oscoda, Michigan, because the lake is freezing!! You rarely see anyone in there.
One of the lessons I learned, though, was that is if you’re laying out in the sun, DON’T fall asleep! I am telling you even if it doesn’t feel warm you will get burnt very badly!
I promise that I didn’t just lay out and tan all week! I would get bored pretty quick.
On June 30, we celebrated my 15th birthday by doing a cousins vs. cousins ‘cupcake war’. It was so much fun! My cousin and I made peach spice cupcakes, And I have to say they were pretty good! Have you ever watched a cooking show, like cupcake wars? If you have, then you’d know that there’s always a catch to the type of cupcakes you make.
The catch to these are that they’re completely egg free, because one of my cousins is allergic. If you’ve ever used flax seed instead of eggs, you would know that it’s pretty tricky! We decided to use it though, and use buttermilk instead of water as the liquid. We weren’t sure if it would work, but it worked really well!
Sometimes life throws something crazy at you, and the best thing to do is just make the best of it and hope everything turns out.
Also this is my dog. She’s pretty cute but also very rotten. My mom says our smiles look the same in this picture…;)
Well I was all over the place with this post! Sorry about that. If you ever want a good summer beach, go to Oscoda, Michigan! 😉 There’s one more thing I want to share with you though.
Being the irresponsible person I am, I left my purse from Belize out in the rain, and my drawing notebook was in it. Everything was soaked. I was pretty bummed, until I opened the notebook! Basically all the colors from the purse had bled through into the notebook to make what I think is a beautiful masterpiece. It inspired me to do some creative handwriting on it and make it look even better!
This showed me in a small way how a bad thing can turn into something beautiful! Even if you don’t understand what is happening right in the moment, pray to God and ask him to help you see the good in every situation!
James 1: 2-4
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
