There’s a difference between trying to embrace yourself and going against who God wants you to be. Always remember that we are free to be ourselves in Christ!
(I almost titled this ‘Embrace Yo Self’ but I wasn’t sure if that’d be professional enough… so yeah.)
Today I want to talk about something I think we all struggle with. Whether you’re a girl or a guy, 5 or 50 years old, we all have trouble embracing ourselves sometimes!
Now, here’s the thing. As a Christian I believe that people sin. We can all agree the world is full of bad stuff. And because we want to follow God because he loves us so much, we have to fight against our natural tendency to do bad things. Wouldn’t you think it’d be bad to tell someone to “embrace yourself”, then? What if they take that the wrong way, you know?
And though there’s truth in that, I also believe that God created us unique and good in our own ways! And as a Christian who tries their hardest to go against what ‘feels right’ but is actually wrong, I know that it’s very easy to forget that that we are free to be who we are.
There’s a difference between ’embracing yourself’ and going against who God wants you to be. And I think that the best way to embrace yourself is to learn to embrace the one who made you and saved you.
So, I guess it’s been a journey for me. I think it’ll be a life-long journey. One that will make me a testimony to others. Have you ever looked at someone that was just so happy and full of life? Or someone that was just completely and utterly ‘them’? Do you ever wish you could be like that person?
That’s what my journey has been about lately. Because I know I am free, I can embrace his truth. And when I embrace his truth, I find who I really am in Christ.
And when I find who I really am, I am free to be ‘me’.
So that’s my small encouragement to you guys today. Remember that God created everything on this earth and he created you. Your unique personality: How you love watching sunsets, how you can guess your favorite songs as soon as they start playing on the radio, how you always know when someone needs a hug… all of it. God did that to you!! Isn’t that so crazy cool?!
Embrace yourself, my friends. Know that you are free because He has made you free. It’s hard sometimes, I know. But it’s SOOOO important! Because you will be completely you and when others see that, they’ll see Christ! They’ll want to know how they can become like that, how they can be free. God has not only given you a personality, but also a power to use it!
